Those Somali who are still in prison, as well as those who have served their sentences and have been released continue to need support. For example, they need lawyers if they want to remain in Germany after their release.

This will cost a bit of money. After the successful first fish auction in January, a lot more fish have piled up and need to be sold. We will therefore hold another auction:

Sowohl die somalischen Gefangenen, die wegen des Vorwurfs der Piraterie noch im Gefängnis sitzen, als auch die Somalier, die schon entlassen sind, benötigen weiterhin unsere Unterstützung. Zum Beispiel brauchen sie,um nach der Entlassung in Deutschland bleiben zu können, Rechtsanwälte. Das kostet Geld!

Fishing for residency II

The solidarity auction “Fishing for Residency” was a huge success. Almost hundreds of fish, octopuses, marine mammals etc. of the most unbelievable kind were delivered and immediately snapped up by bidders. Some items resulted in true bidding duels. In the end, everyone – supporters, auctioneers, bidders and the organising crew – were equally exhausted and tired.

Almost the entire legal fees for papers for one of the Somali prisoners were raised with fish. Who would have thought. And there will be a sequel. Several famous and semi-famous artists have supplied or will be supplying their artwork in order to support Fishing for Residency and to raise funds for the legal fees for the prisoners from the piracy trial.

Keep an eye out for further announcements, some of the artwork will be shown on this blog prior to the next auction. Next time we will start earlier in order to give the smaller fishers, who have to go to bed early, a chance to make a catch. The Somali Prisoners will continue to need our support once they are released from prison (they have served almost 4 years of their sentence). 

We are raising funds for them not to be paper-less once they are released. The goal is to raise €6000 by auctioning off 1000 fish in order to pay for the legal counsel to get residency. Some of the fish can be seen here.
